Each month, we profile one of our members so we may
all become more familiar with the talents, abilities, and gifts given
to each of us from God. The profile is not to call attention to any
one of our members, but rather share the use of our various gifts in
hopes to encourage others to answer the call. _____________________________________________________________________________
May 2010 - Glenda Van Horn
I think God has a wonderful sense of humor. For
example, sending a wrinkly little red faced baby girl to Paul and Betty
Wilkins one cold, snowy December afternoon in 1952 had to make God
smile. You see, this was the third child for the couple. They already
had a daughter who was 15 and a son who was 13. Then along comes baby
number 3.
The family had trouble deciding on a name for this
little intruder. Betty decided she would be called Alvie, after her
maternal grandmother. Brother Henry was mortified. It was bad enough
his mother had given birth in her old age (she was 34) but... Read more about Glenda here. ___________________________________________________________________________
April 2010 - Jacque Elliott
When I think back on my
growing up years, the Pasco Church is always center stage. My family
home was within walking distance of
it and my parents were very involved and supportive of whatever was
going on
there. Dad was the Preacher’s right hand man, Sunday School
Superintendent,
taught my confirmation class, and was the Youth Group leader along with
Mother
who also sang in the choir and was active in the Ladies Aid. If the
doors were open our family was there. Read more about Jacque here.
Patricia Hughes Aston was
born July 19, 1949 in
Vivian,
Louisiana, just 30 miles North of Shreveport. I was the first of 5 children, with 4 boys to follow. My dad,
Neal Hughes, worked for AMOCO and we moved from Vivian to Pampa, TX,
then to
Oklahoma City, then to Ft. Worth in 1965, for the company. My mother
was Sarah Bailey Hughes and she was a very energetic, strong little
woman...all
of 5 ft. They moved many more times through the years of working for
the oil company , but my last stop was Fort Worth and you will see why
later. Read more about Trisha here. _____________________________________________________________________________
February 2010 - Sam McAnally
Sam McAnally was born at
home in Brady, Texas in the summer of 1933. He was the last of ten children
born to M.L. and Mary Ann McAnally. Life started rather dramatically for Sam as
they told him later that he was a “blue baby”, could not breathe, and had to be
resuscitated several minutes after birth. His father was over 74 and his mother
was over 41 when he was born. Life was fun but simple then with lots of
hunting, fishing, baseball, and made up games. Then came WW II. Three older
brothers fought in WW II, one in Korea, and Jesse was in the army
National Guard. Sam’s father died in
1943 when he was ten, and his mother died in 1978 when he was 45.

December 2009 - Gwen Ragsdale
I was born and raised in South Dakota, "the land of
infinite variety". My family owned
a farming/ranching operation. My
grandparents, who were educators from Illinois, came to South Dakota as
homesteaders in 1909 more or less on a dare.
They persevered through the good and bad - and left a legacy that
remains in my hometown to this day. I
was raised in the Presbyterian Church, am a baptized Methodist; but also spent
time immersed in Catholicism.
My parents raised six children, of which I am the youngest. The three eldest children were in college,
grown and gone before I started school; then they married and started having
children. So some of my nieces and
nephews are like my brothers and sisters, while the youngest ones could be my
own children. In all, I have 21 nieces
and nephews - and now great-nieces and nephews.
Whew!! Read more about Gwen here. _____________________________________________________________________________
November 2009 - Jim Kitchens
I arrived on October 18th,
1940 at St. David
Hospital in Austin, Texas to parents Oneida
and James Carol Kitchens. I grew up in
two different locations, first in Govalle, Texas (now just east Austin)
and later in Leander, Texas
with my Grandparents. It was great
growing up in the “country” in the Leander area getting to hunt, fish, trap and
be with my Grandfather who was full blood Cherokee. He taught me a lot about living off the land
and how to get along with nature. He was
a very smart man and I just wish I had listened to him more.

October, 2009 - Ann Moseley
I, Ann Campbell
Moseley, was born and raised, mainly, in Coleman, TX. Yes, I was a Bluecat in
the early ’70’s. I have had a great
life so far and plan on keeping it up for several more years. The doctor that delivered me was Morris Mann
who was from Brady and the brother of Bill Mann. He and his wife Sue were good family friends
so when I went to Tech for college, Sue told me I needed to meet her cousin’s
son, “Kyky”. I thought who would ever
want to go with a guy named “Kyky”.
Behold! A good friend decided he
needed to fix me up with one of his dorm buddies. I told Jet that he had done enough “fixing”
me up, but he insisted. So………..I met
“Kyky”. I met and left. I didn’t think we had much in common. As the year passed, we kept showing up at the
same activities...... (Read more about Ann here). _____________________________________________________________________________
September 2009 - Kathleen Fields Gray
I was born and raised in Brady to Fletcher and Mary Sue Fields. Fletcher and Mary Sue married in the First
United Methodist Church of Brady 50 years ago.
I was baptized and confirmed in the same Church. I have one sister, Nita Fields of Llano.
Growing up in Brady, I was involved in many things. I took piano lessons and dance classes and
have always been a big Bulldog fan since dad was the head football coach at
BHS. I have always loved to swim, and eventually
became a lifeguard and swim teacher (I still teach swimming lessons
today!).
In high school, I was very active....(learn more about Kathleen here). _____________________________________________________________________________
